BPSC Aspirant Dies by Suicide, Police Probe Underway

Muzaffarpur: Sunita Devi, the victim of the infamous kidney removal case in Muzaffarpur, passed away on Monday during treatment at Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH). Sunita, aged 35, had been undergoing treatment for nearly two years since her kidneys were illegally removed during a surgery performed by quack doctor Pawan Kumar.

Sunita was first admitted to Pawan Kumar’s clinic on July 11, 2022, for stomach pain, where she was advised to undergo a uterus removal surgery. On September 3, 2022, at Shubhkant Clinic in Bariyarpur, Pawan Kumar performed the surgery and charged ₹30,000. However, on September 7, it was discovered that both her kidneys had been removed, prompting her mother to file an FIR at Sakra police station.

Sunita’s family accused Pawan Kumar and other involved doctors of removing her kidneys. The case was filed under the Human Parts Transplant Act and the SC-ST Act. The court has sentenced Pawan Kumar to seven years in prison for his involvement in the scandal.
