Yellow Alert Issued as Weather Set to Deteriorate, Thunderstorm and Rain Forecast for 13 Districts

Patna : The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 13 districts in Bihar, including Patna, Gaya, and Begusarai, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and light rainfall. The alert, announced on Thursday afternoon, comes amid deteriorating weather conditions across the state. Strong winds, reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h, are also expected to sweep through the affected areas.
The districts under the alert include Patna, Samastipur, Bhojpur, Gaya, Aurangabad, Nalanda, Nawada, Sheikhpura, Lakhisarai, Jamui, Munger, Begusarai, and Khagaria. Authorities have urged residents to take precautions and avoid staying outdoors during the period of adverse weather. People have been advised to seek shelter in concrete structures and stay away from tall trees and electric poles to minimise the risk of accidents. Farmers, in particular, have been cautioned against venturing into their fields during the storm.
Unstable Weather to Persist for Several Days
According to the Patna Meteorological Centre, the unstable weather pattern is likely to persist across Bihar for the next three to four days, with hailstorms predicted in parts of southern and eastern Bihar. The alert warns that activities related to thunderstorms, rain, and lightning are expected to continue in regions such as South Bihar, Kosi, Seemanchal, and North Bihar until 23 March.
This alert follows an ongoing spell of unpredictable weather in Bihar, which has brought intermittent rain and thunderstorms over the past week, raising concerns about crop damage and disruption of daily life. The state government has advised district authorities to remain vigilant and ensure that emergency services are on standby.
