Storms and Heavy Rain Forecast in Bihar as Temperature Set to Dip; Orange Alert Issued in 12 Districts

Patna: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain in 32 districts of Bihar on Friday, warning of light rainfall accompanied by gusty winds and the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning.

According to the forecast, wind speeds may reach up to 40 km/h in the affected districts. While some regions will see rain and a dip in temperature, residents in other parts of Bihar are likely to face humid and oppressive heat.

Rising Temperatures in Many Districts

Temperatures across most of the state are expected to hover between 34°C and 38°C today. On Thursday, Rohtas and Motihari emerged as the hottest districts, recording a maximum temperature of 38.8°C. In contrast, Banka reported the lowest maximum temperature at 31.6°C.

Patna, the state capital, experienced humid heat with bright sunshine, recording a maximum temperature of 37.9°C and a minimum of 30.5°C. With 48% humidity and little temperature variation, residents felt significant discomfort.

Rainfall in Four Districts

Over the past 24 hours, Bhagalpur, Kishanganj, Banka, and Araria received rainfall along with strong winds. However, other districts such as Nalanda and Madhepura continued to experience hot and sunny conditions.

Monsoon Arrives On Time

In a welcome update for the agriculture sector, the southwest monsoon has arrived on schedule, the IMD confirmed. It has already advanced into Chhattisgarh, Odisha, the North Bay of Bengal, Northeast India, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and entire Sikkim.

This timely arrival has created favorable conditions for Kharif crop sowing, bringing much-needed relief to farmers. The monsoon is expected to become active in Bihar by the second week of June, further easing the impact of the current heatwave.
