Young IPS Officer from Bihar Dies in Tragic Road Accident En Route to First Posting in Karnataka

Patna: A young and promising IPS officer from Bihar, Harshvardhan Singh, lost his life in a tragic road accident in Karnataka while traveling to assume his first posting. Harshvardhan, a 26-year-old officer of the 2023 batch Karnataka cadre, hailed from Fatehpur Padaria village in Saharsa district. He was on his way to join as Additional Superintendent of Police in Hisal when the accident occurred.

The incident took place on Sunday evening, just 10 kilometers from his destination, when the car he was traveling in suffered a tire burst, causing it to go out of control. Harshvardhan died on the spot. His untimely death has left his family and community in mourning.

Harshvardhan, who had recently completed his training in Mysore, was widely regarded as a bright and determined individual. Before joining the IPS, he resigned from two government jobs to focus on preparing for the UPSC examinations, reflecting his dedication to public service.

His uncle, Kamlesh Singh, shared details about Harshvardhan’s background. His father, Akhilesh Singh, serves as an SDM in Madhya Pradesh, while his younger brother Anand Vardhan, an IIT Delhi graduate, is preparing for the UPSC. Harshvardhan himself was an alumnus of NIT Indore, having completed his B.Tech there. Both brothers were born and raised in Madhya Pradesh due to their father’s administrative postings.

Harshvardhan had briefly served as a Panchayati Raj officer in Bihar’s Purnia district before clearing the UPSC interview, after which he left his state government role to join the IPS.

The news of his death has cast a pall of grief over his family and the entire Saharsa region. Residents lamented the tragic loss of a young officer who had a bright future and was on the brink of serving his country. Many expressed their sorrow, remarking that had he completed the final leg of his journey, he might still be alive today.
