12 Dead in Bihar Accidents on New Year’s Day, Including Three Brothers and a Child
Patna: A tragic start to the New Year in Bihar saw 12 people lose their lives in road accidents across several districts, while five others sustained injuries. In a separate incident, an 18-year-old student died by suicide in Lakhisarai. The deadliest accident occurred in Sasaram, where three brothers perished.
Sasaram: Three Brothers Die in Canal Crash
Three cousins-Priyanshu Kumar (25), Ankit Kumar (22), and Shashi Ranjan (23)-were returning from their sister’s house in Natwar village after celebrating a nephew’s birthday when their motorcycle plunged 20 feet into a canal. Locals reported the bike’s speed exceeded 80 km/h.
The bodies were discovered the following morning by a youth out for a run. The Suryapura police sent the bodies for post-mortem and initiated an investigation. The victims, all preparing for competitive exams, hailed from Gunasej village.
Buxar: Two Youths Killed Returning from New Year Party
Two employees of Pratap Sagar Methodist Hospital, Swapnil Praval and Amit Kumar, died in a collision with an unidentified vehicle on NH-922. They were returning home from a New Year’s party. Police have taken the bodies for post-mortem and promised a thorough investigation.
Madhubani: Child Killed as Car Hits Tea Stall Crowd
In Madhubani, an out-of-control car struck a group at a tea stall, killing a child on the spot and seriously injuring three others. The incident sparked local outrage, with a mob setting the vehicle on fire and assaulting the driver. Police intervened, rescuing the driver and restoring order.
Rohtas: Teenager Dies Learning to Ride a Bike
Amarjeet Kumar (14) died in Mani village while learning to ride a bike. The vehicle lost control and hit a tree, killing him instantly. Bikramganj police have sent the body for post-mortem.
Saharsa: Tractor Kills Student, Injures Another
Pritam Kumar (16) was killed, and his friend Monu Kumar critically injured when a tractor hit their bike. The boys were returning from the market after being sent by their hostel’s administrator.
Patna: Girl Run Over While Exiting Auto
Jaya Srivastava (8) was fatally struck by an unidentified vehicle on the Patna-Bakhtiarpur Highway while alighting from an auto with her grandfather. Police have begun an investigation.
Gopalganj: Ninth-Grader Killed in Truck Accident
Sanjeet Kumar Mahato (14) was killed, and his friend Arjun Kumar critically injured when a truck hit their bike near Chhawahi village. Police have sent the body for post-mortem and are investigating.

Komal Kumari (18) hanged herself in Sangrampur village following a family dispute. Her family reported she was upset after an argument with her brother.
