Patna: Bihar is set to upgrade its driving test system with the introduction of automated testing tracks equipped with cameras and cutting-edge technology in Purnia, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Saran, and Gaya. This initiative follows similar upgrades in Patna and Aurangabad, where driving tests are already conducted using advanced technology. The automation work will be funded under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, and a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been signed between Maruti Suzuki and the Transport Department for this project.
Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal stated that in the coming days, all districts will implement these high-tech driving tests, which will significantly improve road safety by ensuring a more accurate and transparent evaluation of driving skills. The new system will be fully automated, reducing human intervention in the testing process and enhancing fairness.
Transport Minister Sheela Kumari praised Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to road safety and emphasized that this move would not only produce skilled drivers but also help reduce traffic accidents. The driving tests will be carried out under camera surveillance, and licenses will be issued only after applicants pass the automated test.
State Transport Commissioner Naveen Kumar noted that the system has already proven successful in Patna and Aurangabad, prompting the extension of this technology to other districts. Rahul Bharti, Executive Officer of Maruti Suzuki, thanked the Bihar government for its trust in their CSR initiative and affirmed that the new system ensures that only qualified drivers will be licensed.
Present at the event were Senior Vice President of Maruti Suzuki India, Tarun Agarwal, and other senior officials from both Maruti Suzuki and the Transport Department.
