Patna: Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, has been appointed by NITI Aayog as the nodal agency for spearheading the development of eastern India under the Purvodaya Scheme. The initiative aims to drive agricultural and rural development across Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, and Andhra Pradesh.
The Purvodaya Scheme seeks to craft a comprehensive plan by addressing the region’s unique challenges and leveraging its potential in agriculture and related sectors. NITI Aayog selected BAU for this pivotal role, acknowledging the university’s excellence in research and its expertise in regional development.
Speaking on the occasion, BAU Vice-Chancellor Dr. D.R. Singh expressed pride in the university’s designation. “This nomination is a mark of pride and responsibility for us. We will use our full expertise and resources to make this scheme effective and sustainable,” he said.
The scheme will focus on identifying critical issues in the region, setting attainable goals by evaluating past programmes, and outlining strategic interventions needed to meet those objectives.
Designed as a transformative initiative, Purvodaya aims to reduce regional disparities, bring structural reforms in agriculture and rural development, and establish eastern India as a key driver of the nation’s growth. By addressing pressing challenges and unlocking the potential of the Purvodaya region, the scheme contributes to the broader vision of a “Developed India.”
