Patna: The protest by BPSC candidates demanding the cancellation of the 70th preliminary examination continues for the 11th day in Gardanibagh, Patna. Prashant Kishore joined the protest again on Saturday and urged students and youth to gather at Gandhi Maidan on Sunday to decide the future course of action in a “student parliament” at 12 noon. He emphasized that the leadership of this movement would remain with the students, with Jan Suraj providing support if needed.
Candidates Insist on Meeting CM Nitish Kumar
The protesting candidates have refused to meet BPSC officials, asserting that only Chief Minister Nitish Kumar can address their concerns. Sadar SDM Gaurav Kumar, who visited the protest site, suggested a meeting with the BPSC secretary, but the candidates rejected the offer. Despite his efforts to persuade them, the SDM left after half an hour, stating that the district administration had done its part.
Guru Rehman Barred from Protest Site
Teacher Guru Rehman, who had previously joined the protests, has been banned from visiting Gardanibagh protest site until January 3 after receiving a police notice. He stated that he had responded to the notice and would cooperate with the legal process.
BPSC Rejects Demands for Re-Examination
BPSC has categorically stated that the 70th preliminary examination will not be cancelled. Exam Controller Rajesh Kumar announced that re-examinations for 12,000 candidates at Bapu Examination Complex would be conducted on January 4, with the mains exam expected in April. He urged candidates to prepare for the mains instead of protesting, dismissing allegations of irregularities as baseless and politically motivated.
Tejashwi Yadav Criticizes Government
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav criticized the NDA government, accusing it of failing the youth. He alleged that the government is indifferent to the struggles of students and highlighted the lack of job opportunities compared to his tenure. Yadav also condemned the use of force against the protesters.
Tension at Protest Site
Khan Sir and Guru Rehman faced criticism from students when they visited the protest site on Friday. The candidates accused them of attempting to hijack the movement and criticized their delayed involvement. Following heated exchanges, both left the site.
Exams Cancelled Based on District Reports
BPSC clarified that exams are cancelled only if the district administration reports irregularities. The commission claims that most candidates support its stance and are preparing for the mains. It called on the protesting candidates to focus on their studies instead of engaging in protests.
With protests gaining momentum, the situation remains tense as candidates await a response from the Chief Minister.
