Bihar Takes Preemptive Measures Following Nepal Earthquake Impact, Teams to Evaluate Effects on Government Buildings
Patna – Bihar, too, has felt the reverberations of the recent earthquakes in Nepal, with multiple districts in the state experiencing the effects of the seismic activity. While no reports of casualties or property damage have surfaced from any part of the state, the government has decided to proactively assess potential structural damage caused by the frequent earthquakes.
In response, the Building Construction Department has initiated preparations for this assessment. On Tuesday, the 14th of November, a comprehensive training session was conducted for Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, as well as Assistant and Junior Engineers from all Building Divisions.
The training session, presided over by the Engineer-in-Chief cum Additional Commissioner of the Building Construction Department, provided detailed insights into the impact of earthquakes on buildings. Engineers across all categories were briefed on the adverse effects of earthquakes on structures and the investigative procedures to be followed.
Departmental sources revealed that during the training, it was decided to form division-wise teams responsible for inspecting various government buildings. These teams will assess the impact of earthquakes on structures such as Government Medical College Hospitals, Panchayat Bhawans, Sahkar Bhawans, District Magistrate Offices, and other similar structures.
Their mandate will be to evaluate the seismic impact on each building, furnish a report to the government, and suggest alternative measures for retrofitting or securing the structures. The department has emphasized the urgency of conducting this assessment.
