Patna: An ambitious project to establish Bihar’s first indoor sports institute and multipurpose indoor stadium is set to begin near Patliputra Sports Complex. Estimated to cost Rs 100 crore, the project aims to provide world-class facilities for indoor sports and training.

The institute will be built on the Rainbow ground, adjacent to the Patliputra Sports Complex, with construction expected to conclude by March 2026. The proposal has been submitted and awaits cabinet approval, anticipated later this month. Following approval, work orders will be issued, paving the way for construction to commence.

Ravindra Shankar, Director General of the Bihar State Sports Authority, expressed optimism about the timeline, stating, “We are committed to completing the construction by March 2026.”

World-Class Facilities

The institute will cater to 20 indoor sports, with international-level infrastructure for games such as badminton, table tennis, squash, basketball, volleyball, boxing, gymnastics, and more. The facility will also host national and international events, elevating Bihar’s profile in sports.

Two multipurpose sports halls are planned, each equipped with a gym, physiotherapy centre, dressing rooms, and a cafeteria offering international-standard food.

Indoor Sports to Be Hosted

The institute will provide facilities for badminton, table tennis, squash, basketball, volleyball, shooting (10 metres), fencing, boxing, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, trampoline, acrobatics, handball, judo-karate, kabaddi, netball, taekwondo, weightlifting, and wrestling.

Officials from the Bihar State Sports Authority and the Sports Department recently reviewed the project presentation, marking a significant step towards approval. Once operational, the institute is expected to be a game-changer for sports in Bihar, offering state-of-the-art training and event facilities under one roof.
