Patna: The Bihar government has formed a committee to work on the development of two new biological parks in the state, with plans to complete them by 2025. This decision follows a review meeting chaired by Dr. Prem Kumar, Minister for the Department of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bihar. The meeting was attended by various senior officials from the department, including the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, the Director of the Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park, and the Chief Conservator of Forests, among others.

Dr. Prem Kumar emphasized the need for two additional biological parks in Bihar, noting that Tamil Nadu, with a population of 8 crores, has four biological parks, while Bihar only has two. He directed officials to search for suitable land for the new parks, one to be located in North Bihar and the other in South Bihar.

The Sanjay Gandhi Biological Park in Patna currently spans 153 acres and is home to 94 species of wildlife and various tree species. Additionally, Bihar’s first zoo safari in Rajgir, covering 191.12 hectares, has already attracted over 9 lakh visitors, with more than 5 lakh tourists visiting the Nature Safari annually.

In addition to the biological parks, the state has been constructing biodiversity parks in various districts, including Gaya, Jamui, and Araria. Ongoing projects in Gopalganj, Banka, and Supaul are also expected to contribute to biodiversity conservation. The department has also taken over 224 parks from the Urban Development Department for development and operation. The establishment of these new biological parks will provide a valuable resource for environmental education and wildlife conservation.
