Samastipur to Get Marine Drive-Style Riverfront on Budhi Gandak
Samastipur: The Chief Minister has approved a riverfront project on the Budhi Gandak river, passing through Samastipur city, which will be developed along the lines of Marine Drive in Patna. The proposed riverfront, stretching from Dharmapur to Jitwarpur, is expected to enhance the city’s beauty and create new employment opportunities. The project will be a part of the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Urban Development Scheme, and once the Pragati Yatra concludes, the scheme is likely to receive Cabinet approval.
The proposal, initiated by BJP MLC Dr. Tarun Chaudhary during the 20-point meeting, has received significant attention from the Chief Minister, who also visited the site during the Pragati Yatra. The riverfront will cover about 3 kilometers, starting from Dharmapur and ending at Jitwarpur Rajghat. The project will involve widening the dam, which will not only prevent flooding but also improve the aesthetic appeal of the city.
The riverfront will be equipped with special lighting, transforming the area into a visually appealing space. Benches will be installed along the river for people to relax and enjoy the view. Additionally, designated spots will be provided for local youth to engage in business activities, creating employment opportunities and supporting the local economy.
The district administration is also expected to generate revenue from the shops built along the riverfront, which will be utilized for the development of other areas. Local residents have expressed their support for the project, seeing it as a significant benefit for the city’s development and quality of life.
