Transport Department to Issue Permits for 5,000 Buses on 350 Routes Across Five States

Patna: In a significant boost to interstate transport, Bihar’s Transport Department has announced plans to grant permits for 5,000 buses to operate on 350 identified routes across Jharkhand, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. This marks the first large-scale initiative to enhance bus transport since the COVID-19 pandemic, which caused a 30% decline in interstate bus operations.

Permit applications open until January 30

The department is accepting applications from private and government operators for bus permits until January 30, 2025. Key routes will connect major districts such as Patna, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Gaya, and Purnia to neighboring states. The initiative aims to issue over 4,500 permits by March, streamlining interstate travel for passengers while providing opportunities for transport operators.

Simplified permit process

To encourage participation, the Transport Department has simplified the permit application process, ensuring ease of access for vehicle owners and operators. This move is expected to facilitate better connectivity and increase transport efficiency across the region.

Job creation and economic impact

The initiative is projected to create over 10,000 jobs, providing employment opportunities for drivers, conductors, and support staff. Details about route-wise permit availability will be uploaded on the department’s official website.

Online application for permits

Interested vehicle owners can apply online for permits on vacant routes until the January 30 deadline. Applicants are required to ensure all valid documentation is submitted during the application process.
