Patna: Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Yadav, a close aide of Tejashwi Yadav, has received threats demanding a ransom of Rs. 20 crore. The criminals, claiming to be gangsters, issued the threat via WhatsApp call, warning of dire consequences, including kidnapping his family members, if the money was not paid.
An FIR has been registered at the Secretariat police station based on Sanjay Yadav’s complaint. SHO Sanjeev Kumar confirmed that the police are investigating the case. The MP reported receiving a call on January 18 from mobile number 9166641611, where the caller claimed to be speaking from America. The caller said, “I know all your routes and details about your family members. If you want their safety, pay Rs. 20 crore, or we will kidnap and kill them.”
Sanjay Yadav stated that missed calls came on January 18 at 3:33 and 3:34 pm, followed by another call at 3:43 pm, which his assistant received before handing the phone to him. Another call came at 4:22 pm. During the conversation, the caller claimed to know his identity as a Rajya Sabha MP and added, “Whether you are an MP, minister, or the Prime Minister, we can shoot anyone.”
The MP informed Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, DGP, and the Home Ministry about the threat. According to RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav, the caller identified himself as Joginder Gyong alias Joga Don, an international gangster. He allegedly warned Sanjay Yadav to pay the ransom within 10 days or face consequences.
Sanjay Yadav is one of Tejashwi Yadav’s closest associates, serving as his advisor and confidant. In October 2022, he was questioned by the CBI in Delhi in connection with the land-for-job case in Railways. Despite legal challenges, Sanjay Yadav remains a key figure in Tejashwi Yadav’s political and personal decisions.
The incident has raised security concerns, and efforts are underway to trace the caller and investigate the case thoroughly.
