Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar held a review meeting in Supaul district today as part of the third phase of his “Pragati Yatra” initiative. The meeting, held at the Latan Chaudhary Conference Hall in the Collectorate, focused on ongoing developmental projects aimed at improving infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare across the region.

Supaul District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar provided a comprehensive overview of the district’s progress, detailing several key initiatives such as the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, Chief Minister’s Nischay Self-Help Allowance Scheme, and the Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal programme, which ensures piped water to every household. Other highlights included the Chief Minister’s Rural Solar Street Light Scheme, irrigation projects for farmers, and the construction of roads, drains, and community buildings.

Kumar also outlined the expansion of self-help groups, improved revenue transparency, and environmental projects under the Jal-Jeevan-Hariyali initiative, aimed at restoring local water bodies.

In his address, Chief Minister Kumar welcomed the updates and acknowledged the concerns raised by local representatives. He assured the officials present that their suggestions would be addressed in future planning and execution phases.

Reflecting on his administration’s tenure, Kumar emphasized the significant improvements in Bihar since 2005, citing infrastructure advancements in healthcare, education, and law enforcement. He pointed out that previous governments had left the state in a state of disrepair, with inadequate roads, healthcare, and education, but that his government had reversed this decline.

The Chief Minister highlighted the strides made in women’s empowerment, including a 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Bodies, as well as the increased participation of women in the state police force. He also touched on the expansion of educational opportunities, with a focus on the distribution of uniforms and bicycles to students, and the construction of new medical colleges, which have boosted healthcare access across Bihar.

Kumar further announced multiple infrastructure projects in Supaul, including the construction of an engineering college, polytechnic institutes, and a new medical college with a budget of ₹605 crore. He also outlined plans for new roads, bridges, and a stadium renovation, alongside the construction of bypasses for Triveniganj and Pipra markets to reduce congestion.

Other infrastructure improvements include the development of a new bus stand in Supaul, the inclusion of Supaul’s airport in the central government’s UDAN scheme for small aircraft operations, and a flyover at the Simrahi market.

In closing, the Chief Minister urged that all pending projects be expedited to further improve the region’s infrastructure. “Our goal is to ensure that Bihar’s development continues at an accelerated pace,” he said.

The review meeting, which was attended by various ministers, MPs, and senior officials, concluded with District Magistrate Kaushal Kumar presenting the Chief Minister with a green sapling and memento in appreciation. Before the meeting, Kumar also visited a pond at the Collectorate compound, instructing the District Magistrate to construct stair-like ghats around it for better access.

The meeting was attended by key figures, including the Minister of Water Resources Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Minister of Energy Bijendra Prasad Yadav, and Minister of Public Health Engineering Neeraj Kumar Singh, among others.
