Patna: The model vending zone in Kadamkuan, developed by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), is in its final stages and is expected to be completed by February 15. With 90% of the work already finished, the project is being expedited to meet the deadline.
Notably, the site will feature Patna’s first automated two-wheeler parking facility, capable of accommodating 300 motorbikes. Additionally, a banquet hall will be available within the premises.
On Thursday, Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar conducted an inspection of the under-construction vending zone, instructing the contractor to accelerate the remaining work. He also directed the removal of encroachments outside the vending zone and ordered the relocation of an electrical transformer at the entrance. Plans include the installation of paver blocks on three sides of the structure to enhance accessibility.
Patna’s First Automated Two-Wheeler Parking
As part of the vending zone, an automated parking system for 300 two-wheelers is being installed, marking a first for the city. The construction of the Kadamkuan vending zone has required 400 tons of steel, and the one-storey structure is nearing completion, with final finishing touches being applied to both the ground and first floors.
A rooftop banquet hall has also been planned for the site, adding to the multifunctional nature of the facility.
Space for 200 Vendors in the New Structure
The vending zone, located near the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, is the first in Patna to be constructed entirely with steel, allowing for future expansion of up to six storeys. Built at a cost of ₹8 crore, it will provide space for 200 vendors to operate from within a single designated structure, reducing congestion on the streets.
Covering an area of 11,000 square feet, the vending zone will offer a total built-up space of 22,000 square feet across its ground and first floors. Each vendor will receive a shop space measuring 2 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width, along with a dedicated storage area beneath the platform of each shop.
Additional facilities include:
-Toilets and urinals for vendors
-Reserved space for two lifts, ensuring provision for future vertical expansion
-Three separate entry and exit gates for ease of movement
Traffic Relief for Kadamkuan Main Road
The completion of the vending zone is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion on Kadamkuan’s main road. Currently, the absence of a dedicated vending space forces fruit and vegetable markets onto the streets, causing frequent disruptions. The relocation of vendors to the new facility will widen one lane of the main road to 20 feet, improving traffic flow.
Authorities anticipate that with the vending zone operational in the next two months, road congestion and accessibility issues will be largely resolved.
During the inspection, Municipal Commissioner Parashar was accompanied by Ward 38 Councillor Dr. Ashish Kumar Sinha, Councillor Indradeep Kumar Chandravanshi, Executive Officer Ganga Kant Thakur, Executive Engineer, and other municipal officials.
