Patna: Bihar has made a significant mark in the country’s postal export network, with Muzaffarpur and Patna securing spots in the top 10 postal export centres nationwide. According to data released by the Ministry of Communications in early January, Muzaffarpur ranks ninth and Patna tenth in the country. Mumbai leads the list with 25,300 bookings per month.
The Muzaffarpur postal export centre records between 1,000 and 1,500 bookings monthly, while the Patna centre sees 800 to 900 bookings during the same period. These two centres are pivotal in facilitating exports from the state, particularly benefiting small-scale entrepreneurs.
Currently, Bihar is home to 46 postal export centres, connecting over 5,000 small-scale entrepreneurs. These entrepreneurs showcase their products on the postal department’s website, where buyers from India and abroad can place orders. Goods remain listed for 25 days, during which entrepreneurs receive full payment for items sold.
Popular exports include herbal products and lac bangles from Muzaffarpur, as well as Makhana. Patna, on the other hand, sees high demand for traditional items like Khaja and Tilkut.
The state’s postal export network has expanded significantly in recent years, with the number of centres growing from just 10 a year ago. This development has opened new markets for small entrepreneurs, offering them a platform to reach national and international customers.
Looking ahead, the postal department plans to further enhance its network by establishing additional postal export centres in all post offices across Bihar. This move is expected to provide even greater opportunities for local entrepreneurs, boosting the state’s export potential and supporting small businesses.
