Hajipur: A discussion on road safety was held today at the Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Hajipur, generally known as IHM Hajipur, as part of National Road Safety Month 2025. The event, aimed at raising awareness about traffic rules and accident prevention, was jointly inaugurated by Vaishali district transport officer Dhirendra Kumar, road safety activist Pankaj Kumar, and Sumit Chatterjee, head of department at the institute.

Addressing the students, Kumar emphasised the importance of adhering to road safety regulations. “If we all strictly follow traffic rules, most road accidents can be prevented,” he said. He urged students to wear helmets while riding two-wheelers and seat belts in four-wheelers, stressing that responsible behaviour on the road can save lives.

Pankaj Kumar, co-member of the District Road Safety Committee, spoke about various traffic regulations and their role in accident prevention. “We must first be aware ourselves and then spread awareness among others to reduce road accidents,” he said.

Chatterjee highlighted the importance of helmets in protecting riders from fatal head injuries. “The brain is the most vital part of our body, and a helmet can make the difference between life and death in an accident,” he said. He pointed out that 60% of road accident victims in India are aged between 18 and 25, making it crucial for young people to understand and follow safety measures.

Murtaza Kamal, the institute’s official language officer, expressed concern over widespread traffic rule violations. “Many people put their own lives and others at risk by ignoring road safety norms,” he said, adding that such awareness programmes should be organised annually.

Assistant lecturer Satyapriya Veheg concluded the event by thanking the guests and participants for their contributions. Faculty members, staff, and students of the institute were present at the discussion.
