Mother Throws Sick Daughter into Pond in Motihari, Child Dies

Motihari: In a tragic incident in Belwa village of Harpur police station area, a woman allegedly threw her ailing daughter into a pond, resulting in the child’s death. The accused mother, Seema Devi, initially filed a missing report but later confessed to the crime during police interrogation.

The deceased, identified as Pihu Kumari, had been suffering from illness since birth. Her father, Runa Patel, works as a laborer in Nepal, and the family was facing severe financial hardship.

According to Seema Devi, they had already spent a significant amount on the child’s treatment, which they could no longer afford. The woman has two other sons and a daughter.

Raxaul SDPO Dhirendra Kumar stated that inconsistencies in the mother’s statements led the police to interrogate her more rigorously. Eventually, she admitted to throwing the child into the village pond. Based on her confession, the police recovered the girl’s body.

Seema Devi has been taken into custody, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Further legal action is underway in the case.
