Congress Leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan’s Son to be Laid to Rest Today in Patna
Patna: The only son of Bihar Congress Legislature Party leader Shakeel Ahmed Khan, Ayan Khan, will be laid to rest today (Tuesday) at the Shah-e-Gaddi cemetery near Patna airport. A large number of supporters from Shakeel Ahmed’s Kadwa constituency are expected to attend the burial.
Ayan’s elder sister, Zainab Khan, who is pursuing law studies in England, was awaited for the burial. Upon receiving the tragic news, she immediately left for Patna, reaching Delhi from London before arriving in Patna this morning.
Several political leaders, including Bihar Congress President Akhilesh Prasad Singh, party MLAs, and MPs, will be present at the funeral. Leaders from other political parties are also expected to pay their respects.
On Monday, after the news of Ayan’s demise broke, prominent leaders such as BJP leader and former minister Shahnawaz Hussain, JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar, and several others visited Shakeel Ahmed Khan’s residence to express their condolences.
Upon hearing the news, Shakeel Ahmed Khan rushed to Patna from Ahmedabad, arriving at his Gardanibagh residence on Monday afternoon. Overcome with grief, he broke down in tears, embracing Maulana Faisal Rahmani, Amir-e-Shariat of Imarat-e-Shariat, Phulwari Sharif.
Ayan, a Class 12 student at Delhi Public School, was found hanging in his room at the family’s government residence in Gardanibagh. The police had to break open the door to enter.
Bihar DGP Vinay Kumar personally visited the scene, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected samples from the spot. However, Ayan’s parents refused to conduct a postmortem, and the body was handed over to the family.
Just days before his passing, on January 18, Ayan had met Rahul Gandhi during the latter’s visit to Patna. Shakeel Ahmed Khan had introduced his son on stage, where Ayan presented a painting to Rahul Gandhi. The Congress leader had appreciated Ayan’s artistic talent.
Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Khan is the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in Bihar and represents the Kadwa Assembly constituency. Known for his clean political image, he was honored as the best MLA in the country in 2023.
