BAU Sabour Hosts Annual Inter-College Sports and Cultural Competition
Sabour: The annual inter-college sports and cultural competition at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, was inaugurated today with great enthusiasm. A total of 606 students from the university’s ten colleges—366 boys and 240 girls—are participating in the event.
The competition commenced with a torch relay, led by Nasar Alam, president of the District Athlete Association, and Dr. Saurabh Chaudhary from the university. Students who excelled in last year’s competition had the honor of carrying the torch.
An oath-taking ceremony followed, where participants pledged to compete with fairness and sportsmanship. Senior university officials, including the Dean and Director, attended the event, with Director of Student Welfare Dr. J. N. Srivastava delivering the welcome address.
Dr. A. K. Sah, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, remarked in his inaugural speech, “The purpose of sports is not just to defeat others but to surpass and improve oneself.”
A Showcase of Sports and Cultural Talent
The competition features a range of athletic events, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, and 1500m races, as well as javelin throw, high jump, long jump, and discus throw.
In the cultural segment, students are showcasing their talents in on-the-spot painting, debate, extempore speaking, solo and group singing, group dance, clay modeling, cartoon making, collage, poster making, mime, skit, and rangoli competitions.
The event aims to foster both the physical and creative development of students. Winners will be felicitated at the closing ceremony.
