Patna: The Regional Transport Authority is introducing a new initiative to improve the traffic system in Patna and surrounding areas. Under this system, the city will be divided into blue, green, and yellow zones, and autos and e-rickshaws will be allowed to operate only on designated routes within their respective zones. The application process for this system will begin soon.
Efforts are being made to make the transport system more organized, safe, and free from traffic congestion. Under the instructions of Regional Transport Authority Chairman cum Divisional Commissioner Mayank Warvade, a policy is being developed to regulate the movement of autos and e-rickshaws. QR codes will be marked on these vehicles, allowing passengers to access driver and vehicle information by scanning them. Designated parking areas will also be assigned according to the zones, and police stations will be tagged accordingly.
Some flexibility has been provided in the new system. Reserved autos from railway stations, airports, and bus stands will be allowed to operate across all three zones. However, concerns were raised by auto driver unions during a meeting with the commissioner regarding challans for autos crossing zones for personal work. Addressing this, it was clarified that drivers can enter any zone for personal reasons, provided they display an “ON” board and do not pick up or drop off passengers during the trip.
This zoning system will apply to Patna Municipal Corporation and the municipal councils of Phulwarisharif, Danapur, and Khagaul. Around 25,000 autos and 10,000 e-rickshaws will be regulated under this initiative, ensuring smoother and more systematic transport operations in the capital.
