Bihar Agricultural University Concludes Inter-College Sports and Cultural Meet

Sabour: The four-day inter-college sports and cultural meet 2024-25 concluded at Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, with a closing ceremony presided over by Vice-Chancellor Dr D R Singh on 7 February 2025. In his address, he commended the sportsmanship and discipline of the participants, representing 11 teams from ten colleges. He expressed hope that the event would inspire students to strive for greater achievements and announced that a national-level athletics track and a swimming pool would soon be completed at the university to help students hone their talents.

A total of 662 students participated, including 363 male and 299 female competitors. The meet saw enthusiastic participation across various sports and cultural competitions, with winners of gold medals earning the opportunity to represent Bihar in the national games organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. Cultural events featured performances of folk dances such as Kajri, Thumri, Jat-Jatin, and Jhijhiya, along with film and classical dances. One-act plays and short dramas by BSc students captivated the audience.

Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour (postgraduate students) emerged as the overall champion with 66 points, winning 11 gold, one silver, and four bronze medals. Dr Kalam Agricultural College, Kishanganj, secured second place with 46 points, earning six gold, two silver, and five bronze medals. Veer Kunwar Singh Agricultural College, Dumraon (Buxar), finished third with 28 points, claiming three gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. Mandan Bharti Agricultural College, Saharsa, followed in fourth place with 23 points, while Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour (graduate students), secured fifth with 24 points.

Among individual athletic events, Ashrya Kumar of Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour, won the 1500m boys’ race, while Anchal Kumari of Bihar Forestry College and Research Institute, Munger, triumphed in the 800m girls’ race. In the 400m race, Priyanshu Kumari of Dr Kalam Agricultural College, Kishanganj, claimed first place in the girls’ category, while Sujeet Kumar of Bhola Paswan Shastri Agricultural College, Purnia, won the boys’ event.

In team sports, Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour (postgraduate), dominated table tennis, badminton, and basketball in both the boys’ and girls’ categories. The volleyball title went to Agricultural Biotechnology College, Sabour, in the girls’ category, while Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour (postgraduate), won the boys’ event. Dr Kalam Agricultural College, Kishanganj, secured victory in girls’ kabaddi, while Veer Kunwar Singh Agricultural College, Dumraon, claimed the boys’ title. Dr Kalam Agricultural College, Kishanganj, won the girls’ relay race, and Mandan Bharti Agricultural College, Saharsa, secured the boys’ title.
