Patna: The Bihar government is set to revise the slabs for holding tax, Urban Development Minister Nitin Nabin announced on Friday. The minister stated that amendments to the Holding Tax Act 2023 are under consideration, as several flaws have been identified in the current system.
Nabin assured that the revised tax structure would be introduced before the upcoming assembly session. “We are ensuring that the new system does not place an excessive burden on anyone. The goal is to simplify tax payments while also boosting revenue,” he said. The revised slabs will differentiate between categories such as large businesses, retailers, renters, and hospitals.
He emphasised that holding tax is meant to facilitate urban development, not hinder businesses. “Municipal bodies rely on this revenue for development, but we want to ensure that the tax system remains fair and does not become a burden on businesses,” he added.
Reports of grievances from various districts prompted the government to review the existing tax structure. Nabin confirmed that departmental officials have been instructed to engage with different business sectors to discuss their concerns and propose necessary revisions.
