Patna: The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the results of the JEE Main January session on Tuesday, revealing that 14 students secured a perfect 100 percentile. However, no candidate from Bihar, Jharkhand, or Madhya Pradesh made it to this list. The highest scorer from Bihar, Panini, achieved a 99.99442 percentile, making him the state topper.
JEE Main Results Available Online
Students can check their results on the official website, jeemain.nta.nic.in. This year’s examination was conducted under stringent security measures, including the use of 5G jammers, CCTV surveillance, and artificial intelligence. AI-based monitoring detected 39 candidates involved in unfair practices, leading to their results being withheld.
A total of 38 flying squads, along with a National Coordinator, 277 City Coordinators, and 894 observers, were deployed to ensure a fair examination process. Technical Observers and Deputy Observers were also involved in overseeing the exam.
How NTA Scores Are Calculated
The JEE Main is conducted in multiple shifts, meaning that difficulty levels can vary between sessions. To ensure fairness, the NTA normalizes scores using a percentile system calculated to seven decimal places. Each student’s raw score is compared with others in the same shift, and the percentile is determined using the formula:
(Number of students with the same or lower raw score ÷ Total number of students in that shift) × 100
This method applies to both the overall score and individual subject scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The same percentile calculation will be used for the April session, and if a student appears for both the January and April exams, their best NTA score will be considered for the All India Rank.
JEE Main 2025: Exam Statistics
The JEE Main January session for BE and BTech courses was held in 10 shifts between January 22 and 29. A total of 13,11,544 candidates registered for the exam, out of which 12,58,136 appeared. The gender breakdown was:
- Boys: 8,33,325
- Girls: 4,24,810
The exam took place at 618 centers across 304 Indian cities, as well as in 15 international locations. It was conducted in Hindi, English, and 13 regional languages.
Among the students who appeared:
- General category: 4,66,358
- EWS: 1,38,699
- OBC: 4,90,275
- SC: 1,22,845
- ST: 39,959
Results for 39 students were withheld due to malpractice.
Bihar Topper Panini Secures 23rd Rank Nationally
Panini, a student of Samarthya Classes, Patna, emerged as Bihar’s JEE Main 2025 topper with a 99.99442 percentile, securing an All India Rank of 23. A resident of Hajipur, Vaishali, Panini is the son of government teachers Sanjay Kumar Sharma and Nibha Kumari. He attributed his success to self-study, dedicating 10 hours a day to preparation.
Apart from his JEE achievement, Panini has also excelled in international competitions. He won a silver medal at the 17th International Olympiad of Astronomy and Astrophysics 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He was previously selected for OCSC 2023 in Astronomy and Astrophysics and has cleared INPHO, INCHO, and INAO this year, opting for the Astronomy Camp as his specialization.
