Darbhanga: In a disturbing turn of events, another case of child rape has rocked Darbhanga district, Bihar, just 48 hours after a similar incident. A three-year-old girl is now in critical condition, admitted to the ICU of the Gynecology Department at Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), following a brutal assault. This marks the second such heinous crime against young girls in the district within the past two days.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday evening around 6:30 pm in a village within the Kewti police station area. Police were alerted to the crime after 9 pm. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Sunil Kumar, resides a mere 100 meters from the victim’s home.

According to reports, Kumar allegedly lured the young girl from outside her house under the pretext of playing. He then carried her away a short distance and committed the assault before fleeing. However, swift action by the police led to his arrest. He is currently being interrogated. Tension has gripped the village following the incident.

The victim’s mother recounted the horrific ordeal, stating that her daughter was playing near their home when the brother of a neighboring woman, who was visiting, approached her. He then took the child away. The crime came to light when a girl from the accused’s house found the victim crying and brought her home.

Following the discovery of the assault, the family immediately informed the police, who dispatched teams to both the hospital and the accused’s residence. Kumar was apprehended by villagers and handed over to the police upon their arrival. Outrage has spread throughout the community, with villagers demanding strict punishment for the perpetrator.

Kumar is reportedly a resident of the Jaale police station area and had been staying at his sister’s in-laws’ house in the victim’s village for the past 15 days. Both the victim’s and the accused’s families are reportedly laborers.

Upon receiving news of the incident, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jagunath Reddy immediately dispatched a team, including City SP Ashok Kumar Chaudhary, to the scene. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team has also been called to the village.

This latest attack comes on the heels of another rape case reported on Tuesday night in a village within the Kusheshwarsthan police station area. In that incident, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 50-year-old man and is also in critical condition at DMCH. The repeated occurrence of such brutal crimes has raised serious concerns about the safety of young girls in the region.
