Bihar Targets 1,000 EV Charging Stations in a Year

Patna: The Bihar Transport Department has set an ambitious target to establish 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the state within a year. The initiative aims to support the growing number of electric vehicles and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Charging Hubs Along Highways and Urban Centres

To ensure convenience for EV users, charging stations will be installed on both sides of national highways at intervals of 10 to 15 kilometres. Additionally, stations will be set up at key urban locations, including petrol pumps, bus terminals, bus depots, and educational institutions.

Currently, Bihar has over 360 EV charging facilities spread across petrol stations and other locations. The Transport Department has conducted a review meeting and issued guidelines to districts to expedite the expansion.

Prioritising Key Locations

The charging stations will be installed on a priority basis in major districts to promote the adoption of electric vehicles and contribute to environmental sustainability. Department officials have claimed that the government is moving swiftly to meet the target by the end of the year.

Charging Stations in Government Buildings

To further support the shift to electric mobility, all government buildings in Bihar will be equipped with EV charging facilities. The government is actively promoting policies to encourage private investment in charging stations, offering grants to those willing to establish facilities at private locations.
