Darbhanga: On the occasion of Vidyapati Smriti Parv, state water resources minister, Sanjay Kumar Jha renewed the appeal to the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, urging a swift issuance of the notification to officially rename Darbhanga Airport as Kavi Kokil Vidyapati Airport.

Jha, paid homage to the esteemed Maithil poet, Vidyapati, on the occasion of his memorial festival. Vidyapati, a revered figure in the devotional and literary traditions of Indian literature, particularly in languages like Maithili, Avahat, and Sanskrit, is remembered as a significant scholar.

Minister Jha acknowledged Vidyapati’s lasting impact on the hearts of Mithila residents and highlighted the efforts of the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar in preserving his legacy. The annual State Vidyapati Mahotsav is organized at his Samadhi place, Devnagari Vidyapatidham in Samastipur, as a tribute to the revered poet. The 11th Rajkiya Vidyapati Mahotsav, spanning three days, commenced on Saturday.

In a gesture reflecting the sentiments of the people of Mithila, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had written a letter on December 22, 2020, to the then Union Civil Aviation Minister, urging the notification of Darbhanga Airport’s name after the poet, Kavi Kokil Vidyapati.

The resolution to rename Darbhanga Airport as Kavi Kokil Vidyapati Airport was passed by the Bihar Assembly and Bihar Legislative Council in March 2021, with the recommendation sent to the Central Government.
