Jamui/ Patna: A major train accident was narrowly avoided on the Jasidih-Jhajha rail section of the Eastern Railway, thanks to the alertness of railway patrol staff. Two fish plates were found loose on the up track between Lahaban and Telwa Bazar Halt, posing a serious risk to passing trains. However, quick action by the patrolling team helped avert the potential disaster.
Railway workers’ swift response prevented disaster
Railway patrolmen Suraj Verma and Chandrika Yadav discovered the loose fish plates near kilometre 344/17-19 around 1 am on Monday night. One fish plate was completely detached, while the other had loose nuts and bolts. They immediately informed officials, allowing the railway department to carry out urgent repairs and prevent an accident.
Given the seriousness of the situation, the 13185 Up Sealdah-Jaynagar Gangasagar Express was halted for 45 minutes while the track was repaired. Jasidih AEN Pintu Das confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine whether the fish plates loosened naturally or were tampered with deliberately.
Previous security concerns in the region
This incident follows earlier security concerns in the area. On February 13, unknown individuals attempted to cut tracks on the Jhajha-Gidhaur section. Additionally, 45 kg of explosives were recovered near Ghorparan station by the SSB. In response, the railway administration has increased security measures to prevent future threats.
