Patna:The family of Rahul Lavari (28), a third-year Computer Science and Mathematics student at IIT Patna, has filed a murder case, rejecting the suicide theory.
Rahul’s elder brother, Vanshi Lavari, expressed disbelief at Patna airport, stating, “We ourselves are confused as to why he did this.”
In the FIR lodged at the police station, Vanshi claimed that Rahul was neither depressed nor facing any problems. “He cannot commit suicide. There is a deep conspiracy behind this. He has been murdered,” the complaint states.
On Tuesday, Rahul reportedly cut his wrist before jumping from the seventh floor of his hostel building, causing chaos on the IIT Patna campus. The incident occurred just five minutes after he sent a message in Telugu in a WhatsApp group, which read, “I am a loser, I do not deserve it.”
Danapur DSP Pankaj Mishra stated that the message was initially unclear but was later translated, revealing possible distress. However, friends and classmates insist that Rahul never showed signs of depression. “He was always smiling. He had recently attended the Kumbh Mela and uploaded his photos on Facebook,” said Rituraj, one of his batchmates.
Rahul’s family, including his parents and elder brother, arrived in Patna following the incident. His body was taken for a postmortem at AIIMS Patna on Wednesday before being flown to Hyderabad around 2 PM. Upon reaching Rahul’s hostel room, the grieving family broke down in tears.
Despite the ongoing semester exams and academic pressure, Rahul’s friends assert that he was excelling in his studies. “He had good scores in all semesters. No one can understand why he would take such a step,” a friend added.
IIT police station in-charge Vivek Kumar confirmed that Rahul’s mobile phone has been seized, and every possible angle is being investigated. Although the family has lodged a case, no specific person has been named as an accused yet.
The mystery surrounding Rahul Lavari’s death deepens as authorities probe whether it was a suicide or foul play.
