Waterway Transport Proposed to Ease Sand-Laden Traffic Congestion: Patna DM

Patna: To tackle the growing problem of traffic congestion caused by sand-laden vehicles, authorities are now exploring the possibility of waterway transportation. This alternative is expected to reduce road traffic burden and lower transportation costs.
District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh informed that a proposal for water transport has been sent from the district administration to the mining department, which has forwarded it to another department for further evaluation. Since all sand ghats are located along riverbanks, transporting sand via rivers such as the Ganga, Ghaghra, and Gandak would be more efficient. The plan is expected to materialize once the necessary approvals are secured.
Currently, the movement of heavy sand-laden vehicles has been causing severe traffic jams, leading to difficulties for the general public. Long queues of trucks and tractors create congestion and disrupt daily commuting. The proposed water transport system aims to address these challenges while also making sand transportation more cost-effective.
