Patna: The Bihar government has announced plans to develop the state’s first international-level sports city in Patna’s Punpun block. Spanning 100 acres, the ambitious project was approved during the 2025–26 budget session and aims to provide world-class training and infrastructure for athletes across disciplines.

The Bihar Sports City is set to become a premier centre for sports innovation and training in India. Equipped with Olympic-standard facilities, the complex will feature modern stadiums, dedicated training centres, hostels for athletes, and state-of-the-art sports science laboratories. The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between rural and urban players by offering high-quality coaching and resources to nurture talent.

The proposed sports city will include:

  • Multi-sports stadiums – Dedicated arenas for cricket, football, badminton, tennis, archery, taekwondo, and swimming.
  • Swimming pool complex – Including spa, sauna, physiotherapy, yoga, and e-sports facilities.
  • Sports education and training centre – Providing coaching for national and international competitions.
  • Spectator amenities – Modern stands, locker rooms, warm-up areas, VIP seating, digital centres, and private suite boxes.
  • Retail and entertainment hub – Restaurants, clubhouses, convention centres, banquet halls, and conference spaces.

The Bihar government has allocated Rs568 crore for sports in the 2025–26 budget—Rs88 crore more than the previous year. Of this, Rs373 crore is earmarked for stadiums and sports infrastructure, while Rs195 crore will support various sports activities.
