Patna: Dilip Jaiswal has been appointed as the new president of the Bihar BJP, with the announcement made during the party’s State Council meeting at Bapu Auditorium in Patna on Tuesday. The announcement was delivered by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in the presence of senior BJP leaders, including state in-charge Vinod Tawde, co-in-charge Deepak Prakash, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Sinha, and Union Ministers Giriraj Singh and Nityanand Rai.
Jaiswal, a three-time Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from Purnia, Araria, and Kishanganj, hails from Khagaria district and belongs to the Kalwar caste. He holds multiple academic degrees, including an MSc, MBA, PhD, and Master of Philosophy. Known for his influence in the Seemanchal region, Jaiswal has also served as BJP’s state treasurer for two decades and is considered close to Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
His appointment comes as the BJP gears up for the Bihar assembly elections, with the State Council meeting focused on refining the party’s electoral strategy and strengthening its organisational structure. Jaiswal had recently resigned as Bihar’s Revenue and Land Reforms Minister, following the party’s one man, one post principle. His resignation was part of a broader cabinet reshuffle, which saw the induction of seven BJP ministers into Nitish Kumar’s government.
As state president, Jaiswal is expected to play a key role in mobilising party workers and preparing the BJP for the upcoming elections. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to consolidate the party’s position in Bihar, particularly in regions where the BJP aims to expand its support base.
