Two Youths Drown While Making Reels at Patna’s Collectorate Ghat

Patna: Two young men drowned in the Ganges at Collectorate Ghat in Patna on Sunday while recording social media reels, police have confirmed. The victims, identified as Aamir and Hasanul Banna, were residents of Shahganj cemetery in the Sultanganj police station area. Both were pursuing their graduation.

Gandhi Maidan police station in-charge, Sitaram Prasad, stated that the bodies had been recovered, but the families refused a postmortem examination, after which the bodies were handed over to them.

According to reports, four friends had gone to the ghat in the afternoon without informing their families. While one remained on the banks, three entered the river to bathe and film videos. Despite warnings from a boatman about the depth of the water, they continued.

Tragedy struck when two of them were swept into deep waters and could not be rescued. The third was saved by the boatman, who threw a bamboo pole to pull him to safety.

This is the second such incident at Collectorate Ghat in recent weeks. On February 26, five people drowned at the same spot, raising concerns over the safety measures in place at the ghat.
