Patna: The Bihar government will urge the central government to approve the construction of a Greenfield airport in Begusarai, with the final decision resting with the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation.
State Minister-in-charge Vijay Chaudhary made this announcement on Tuesday in response to an attention call motion raised by MLAs Kundan Kumar, Murari Mohan Jha, Suryakant Paswan, and Shankar Singh.
Existing Airport Infrastructure in Begusarai
During the discussion, Minister Vijay Chaudhary informed the House that Begusarai already has an airport with a 4,000-foot-long and 150-foot-wide runway. However, he emphasized that a modern Greenfield airport is essential for enhancing the region’s connectivity. The Bihar government will also request the Union Finance Minister to allocate funds for this project.
Why Begusarai Needs an Airport?
The legislators advocating for the new airport highlighted Begusarai’s growing industrial and commercial significance. The district is home to several key industries, including:
- Barauni Refinery
- Pepsi Plant
- Sudha Dairy
- Thermal Power Station
Additionally, Simaria Dham, a major religious site, attracts a significant number of visitors, further strengthening the case for improved air connectivity.
Nitish Government’s Focus on Air Connectivity
The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has been focusing on expanding air connectivity across the state. This commitment was reflected in the recent state budget, where the government proposed the construction of seven new airports.
The development of new airports is expected to boost Bihar’s economy, improve tourism, and provide better transport infrastructure to businesses and industries. If approved, the Begusarai Greenfield Airport will play a crucial role in driving regional growth and positioning Bihar as a key player in India’s aviation network.
