Madhubani/Patna: A tragic incident in Madhubani district cast a shadow over Holi celebrations on Friday, as four young girls drowned in a pond while washing off colours after the festivities. The deaths have left the entire village in mourning.
The incident occurred in Dahila village under the Arer police station in Benipatti block. According to family members, the girls—identified as Kajal Kumari (20), daughter of Srikant Rai; Chanda (25); Annu Kumari, daughter of Siyasharan Rai; and Lakhan Kumari, daughter of Kappu Rai—went to the pond to bathe after playing Holi.
Eyewitnesses said that one of the girls ventured into deep water and began struggling. In an attempt to save her, the other three jumped in but were unable to stay afloat. Local residents raised an alarm and alerted the police.
A rescue operation was launched immediately, with police and villagers working together to retrieve the girls from the water. However, by the time they were pulled out, all four had drowned. Their bodies were sent to Madhubani Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination.
The incident has sparked grief and shock in the village, with bereaved family members struggling to come to terms with their loss. Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
