Bihar’s March Heat Breaks Records, April-May to be Harsher

Patna: Bihar is set to experience an intense summer, with rising temperatures signaling the onset of extreme heat. With winter now over, the state is witnessing a sharp increase in temperatures, and forecasters predict severe heat in the coming weeks.
On Friday, Sheikhpura recorded the highest temperature in Bihar at 36.5°C, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Patna. Several districts reported temperatures exceeding 30°C, with Patna and Motihari both recording 34.6°C, Darbhanga 34.9°C, Aurangabad 35.8°C, and Gaya 35.1°C. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded in Banka at 16.1°C.
Dry Conditions and Possible Rain
The IMD has forecast dry weather across most of Bihar, including Patna, with clear skies expected for the next three days. The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 34°C in the capital. However, on March 16, light rainfall is expected in some parts of the state due to an active western disturbance, which may bring temporary relief.
Heatwave Alert for April and May
Meteorologists warn that the heat will intensify further in April and May, with a high probability of heatwaves. While no immediate heatwave threat has been issued, experts caution that temperatures could rise 4–5°C above normal levels in the coming weeks, signaling a challenging summer ahead.
