Patna: A sports camp was organised on March 18 across five jails in Bihar, including Beur Jail in Patna, as part of an initiative to improve the mental well-being of prisoners and reduce stress. The event was held under Indian Oil Corporation Limited’s (IOCL) reform programme, Parivartan – From Jail to Gaurav, which aims to support the holistic development of inmates through sports activities.
In Bihar, the initiative covered five central jails, with the Beur Jail event catering to both male and female prisoners. In the first phase, 40 male inmates were trained in volleyball and chess, while 11 female inmates participated in chess training. The programme seeks to engage prisoners in sports and equip them with skills that can help them reintegrate into society upon their release.
Senior officials from the Bihar prison department and IOCL attended the event at Beur Jail, including Sanjeev Kumar Chaudhary, secretary of the home department-cum-inspector general of prisons and correctional services; Kamlesh Rai, IOCL’s executive and state head; Rakesh Roshan, general manager (human resources) at IOCL; and Roshan Minj, chief manager (human resources CMP) at IOCL. Other key officials from the prison department and IOCL were also present.
The Parivartan initiative is part of IOCL’s broader efforts to introduce constructive activities in prisons across India, focusing on rehabilitation and skill-building.
