Patna: The Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) is set to showcase its disaster preparedness initiatives as part of the Bihar Diwas celebrations from March 22 to 26. A series of programs will be held at Gandhi Maidan, Patna, where public demonstrations on disaster response and rescue operations will be conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Bihar Fire Service, Civil Defence, and other key stakeholders.
The awareness drive will also include street plays, musical performances, and mock drills by theatre artists to educate the public on disaster risk reduction strategies. Vice President Uday Kant, along with authority members Kaushal Kishore Mishra, Narendra Kumar Singh, and Prakash Kumar, recently met Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to invite him for the inauguration of BSDMA’s pavilion at the event.
Strengthening Disaster Preparedness in Bihar
BSDMA has been actively implementing various programs to reduce disaster risks and enhance resilience across the state. Key initiatives focus on capacity building, public awareness, and preventive measures for different types of disasters. Through training and publicity campaigns, the authority aims to educate people on preparedness strategies and response mechanisms.
The authority has developed action plans, guidelines, and standard operating procedures for critical programs such as the Chief Minister School Safety Program, community volunteer training, drowning prevention, sailor training, and earthquake-resistant construction training for masons. Additionally, disaster risk reduction training is being provided to JEEViKA Didis to strengthen grassroots preparedness efforts.
Special emphasis is being placed on ensuring the safety of disabled individuals during disasters. A dedicated training module has been developed for students, teachers, trainers, and families, with more than 700 children from five special schools in Patna having already participated in mock drills. Additionally, around 1,000 master trainers have been trained to enhance disaster preparedness across different communities.
