Patna : Vehicle owners in Bihar have been warned to update their Aadhaar-linked mobile numbers in their Registration Certificates (RC) and Driving Licenses (DL) before March 31, or face significant penalties. The Bihar Transport Department has made it clear that failure to comply will result in the suspension of both pollution and fitness certificates from April 2025.
24 Lakh Vehicles Yet to be Updated
According to the Transport Department, nearly 24 lakh vehicles in the state have not had their mobile numbers updated. Without an updated mobile number, the department will not issue pollution certificates for these vehicles after the deadline. Additionally, vehicle owners will be required to pay a fine if they attempt to update their information after March 31.
Mandatory Update to Avoid Penalties
The department has mandated that mobile numbers linked to Aadhaar must be updated in both RCs and DLs. Failure to do so on time will not only stop the issuance of pollution certificates but will also prevent the renewal of fitness certificates. Since September 2024, more than 32,000 vehicle owners have updated their mobile numbers, and the department is now modifying its software to ensure that no certificate is issued without this update.
Consequences in Case of Accidents and E-Challans
The absence of an Aadhaar-linked mobile number can cause complications in case of accidents or traffic violations. Without updated information, it becomes difficult for authorities to identify vehicle owners and drivers. Additionally, e-challan notifications for traffic violations often fail to reach the vehicle owners, which can lead to legal complications and delays in processing.
