Patna: At least 16 people lost their lives in separate road accidents across Bihar on Tuesday, including a pregnant woman and a cyclist. Many of the victims were motorcyclists.
In one of the most distressing incidents, a pregnant woman and another passenger died when a speeding truck collided head-on with a Bolero carrying passengers in Bettiah’s Dhanaha police station area. Five others sustained serious injuries and were taken to Kushinagar District Hospital in Uttar Pradesh for treatment. The bodies were sent to the sub-divisional hospital in Bagaha for post-mortem.
In Bihar Sharif, a woman identified as Rehana Khatoon was crushed by a crane while crossing the Rajgir-Bihar Sharif main road on Tuesday morning. The driver fled the scene after the accident. Police said the victim was observing Roza and was collecting Fidra Zakat when she was struck.
A separate incident in Samastipur saw a cyclist being crushed by a dumper while on his way to work.
In Kaimur district, near the UP-Bihar border, a motorcycle accident claimed the lives of an uncle and nephew near the ROB in Sawaiya Pattidar village. The victims, Naushad Ansari (36) and Shahre Alam (26), were returning from Zamania in Ghazipur after distributing wedding invitations when their bike lost control and hit a divider.
Police are investigating the incidents, and the bodies have been handed over to families after post-mortem examinations.
