Patna: Under the Smart City scheme, state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance systems have been installed in Patna, Bihar Sharif, Bhagalpur, and Muzaffarpur, significantly improving crime control and traffic management. A total of 6,138 CCTV cameras are operational across these cities, monitored from the Integrated Command Control Center (ICCC). This advanced system has played a crucial role in identifying criminals and enforcing traffic regulations.
The surveillance initiative has also led to substantial revenue generation through traffic violation fines, with a total challan recovery of Rs. 141.85 crore. Patna recorded the highest collection of Rs. 97.45 crore between October 2024 and March 2025. Bhagalpur, Bihar Sharif, and Muzaffarpur also contributed significantly, with total collections of Rs. 22.68 crore, Rs. 0.48 crore, and Rs. 21.24 crore, respectively. The revenue collected in Patna alone has tripled the cost of the project within two years.
Patna leads the initiative with 3,300 CCTV cameras, including adaptive traffic control cameras, red light jump detection, number plate recognition, and speed violation detection systems. Bhagalpur has 1,500 cameras installed across 250 locations, helping solve cases of theft and violent crimes. The city also features environmental sensors for air quality monitoring. Bihar Sharif has 494 cameras, improving law enforcement and civil security, while Muzaffarpur has 844 cameras enhancing safety and traffic control.
The system has contributed significantly to maintaining law and order, ensuring traffic discipline, and boosting revenue collection. The strict monitoring of traffic violations and criminal activities has not only made cities safer but also strengthened governance and urban management under the Smart City initiative.
