Patna : Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) announced the results of the 2025 matriculation examination on Saturday, with three students securing the top position — two of them girls. Sakshi Kumari from Samastipur, Anshu Kumari from Champaran, and Ranjan Kumar from Bhojpur emerged as joint toppers, each scoring 489 out of 500 marks, translating to an impressive 97.80%.

123 students in the top 10

This year, 15.85 lakh students appeared for the Class 10 exams, with 12.79 lakh successfully clearing the tests. The overall pass percentage stood at 82.11%. Of the 123 students who made it to the top 10 list, 25 secured positions in the top 5, while 98 students occupied ranks between 6 and 10.

Despite the high success rate, more than 2.78 lakh students failed to pass. Of the total 15,58,077 candidates, 4.70 lakh secured first division, 4.88 lakh obtained second division, and 3.07 lakh passed with third division.

‘I didn’t study by the clock,’ says Sakshi

Sakshi Kumari, who topped the state, attributed her success to her family and teachers. “I can’t believe I have secured the first rank. My parents, siblings, and teachers have all contributed to this success,” she said. Sakshi, who plans to pursue science in her higher studies, added, “I didn’t study by watching the clock but focused on understanding the topics.”

Ranjan’s remarkable journey despite personal tragedy

Ranjan Kumar from Agiaon Bazar in Bhojpur district, who also secured the first rank, had a challenging journey. His father died of a brain haemorrhage in 2003, and his mother, Sheela Devi, is a homemaker. Ranjan, who studied online, expressed his gratitude towards his family for supporting his education.

Anshu Kumari overcomes poverty to top exams

Anshu Kumari from Bettiah, who also scored 489 marks, belongs to a poor family from Gahari village, about 35 km from the district headquarters. Her achievement reflects the determination and resilience that has defined her journey.

Multiple students share second and third ranks

Three students — Puneet Kumar Singh from Bhojpur, Sachin Kumar Ram from Jamui, and Priyanshu Raj from Munger — secured the second rank with 488 marks (97.60%). Five students — Mohit Kumar from Banka, Suraj Kumar Pandey, Khushi Kumari from Rohtas, Priyanshu Ranjan from Azamnagar, and Rohit Kumar from Jamui — secured the third rank with 487 marks (97.40%).

Double rewards for Bihar Board toppers

This year, BSEB has doubled the prize money for the toppers. First rank holders will receive Rs2 lakh each, up from Rs1 lakh previously. Second and third rank holders will receive Rs1.5 lakh and Rs1 lakh, respectively, while students securing positions between fourth and tenth place will be awarded Rs20,000 each.
