Patna: Patna’s Jaya Prakash Narayan International Airport is set for a major traffic overhaul with the construction of a new terminal building. The revamped layout will feature two entry gates and one exit gate, aiming to streamline vehicle movement and reduce congestion in the area.
In a recent meeting, authorities decided to close the current intersection near the airport once the new terminal becomes operational. Officials noted that keeping the existing roundabout would lead to persistent traffic bottlenecks. To address this, a double U-turn will be built near the IAS Bhawan, modeled after the one on Nehru Path, also known as Bailey Road. The new structure will be located along Peer Ali Khan Marg (airport road) and the airport entrance.
The Road Construction Department has been tasked with modifying the existing layout. This includes breaking the footpath on Peer Ali Khan Marg to widen the road and constructing a four-lane stretch connecting it to the Bihar Animal Science University (BASU) intersection. Preparations for the project have begun, with construction expected to start soon.
Once completed, the redesigned road network will provide a more organized traffic flow. Vehicles heading to the airport from Sheikhpura Mor will take a U-turn near the IAS Bhawan before reaching the terminal. Those traveling from Chitkohra Golambar will have two options: either head directly to the airport or take an alternative route via Patna Airport Police Station, passing Nehru Path and BASU to reach Sheikhpura Mor.
For commuters leaving the airport, the new system will offer a smoother exit. They will be able to access the Transport Office Road via Nehru Path and BASU, bypassing the current intersection. Additionally, a U-turn near the IAS Bhawan will be available for those coming from Chitkohra Golambar.
Authorities expect the new road network to significantly ease congestion, ensuring a more efficient and hassle-free commute for travelers and daily commuters around Patna Airport.
