Bihar: The Bihar Police Headquarters has issued a directive instructing all district police chiefs to ensure peace and order in the state amid heightened sensitivities over the Waqf Amendment Bill. Law and Order Additional Director General (ADG) Pankaj Darad issued the order on Thursday, urging law enforcement officials to remain vigilant and take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt public harmony.
The directive, which has been communicated to all Inspector Generals (IGs), Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Superintendents of Police (SPs) across Bihar, emphasises strict monitoring of anti-social elements. Officers have been told to crack down on those violating the law or spreading misinformation.
In light of the upcoming Ram Navami celebrations on April 6 , authorities have reinforced security measures, deploying additional forces in sensitive areas. Law enforcement agencies are also intensifying surveillance on social media platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram. Officials are monitoring posts in real time to identify and act against individuals spreading inflammatory content or false rumours.
The police have warned that those found sharing objectionable material without verification will face legal action. “We will not tolerate any attempts to incite unrest. Anyone engaging in rumour-mongering or spreading provocative content online will be held accountable,” a senior police official said.
The Bihar Police have assured that they are on high alert and are proactively responding to intelligence inputs. Officers, from station house officers (SHOs) to SSPs, have been instructed to act swiftly on reports from the public.
With communal tensions running high, authorities are keen to prevent any disturbances. Residents are being urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity to the police as part of broader efforts to maintain peace across the state.
