Patna: The Bihar government has signed a significant agreement with Jeevika to enhance the welfare of students in 39 Other Backward Classes (OBC) Girls Residential Plus-2 High Schools. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed on Thursday, aims to improve nutrition, sanitation, and overall living conditions for students while also promoting women’s economic empowerment through Jeevika’s initiatives.
The agreement was formalized by Anil Kumar Thakur, Additional Secretary of the Backward and Extremely Backward Classes Welfare Department, and Vinay Kumar Rai, Director (Enterprise) of Jeevika. The signing was witnessed by Manoj Kumar, Secretary of the Welfare Department, and Himanshu Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of Jeevika.
Under the three-year agreement, Jeevika will provide nutritious meals to students through its ‘Jeevika Didi Ki Rasoi’ initiative. Additionally, the organization will oversee sanitation and laundry services and ensure timely uniform distribution across all 39 schools. If found satisfactory, the agreement can be extended for another three years. The initiative will take effect from the 2025-26 financial year.
Officials say the collaboration will significantly enhance student well-being, providing a clean, healthy, and structured environment for academic growth. The initiative is also expected to boost Jeevika’s operational efficiency and enhance the reputation of government-run residential schools.
Beyond student welfare, the partnership will create employment opportunities for rural women, supporting their economic independence and social development. By integrating Jeevika’s grassroots model into school services, the initiative is set to benefit not just students but also communities across the state.
