Patna : Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary laid the foundation stone for the new headquarters of the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Thursday. The six-storey building, set to cost Rs 27.62 crore, will house modern facilities aimed at streamlining municipal operations.

The event saw the presence of Bihar Assembly Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav, Urban Development Minister Jiwesh Mishra, Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen, along with several local legislators and PMC officials, including Mayor Sita Sahu and Municipal Commissioner Animesh Parashar.

The new headquarters will be designed to enhance administrative efficiency, with dedicated floors for key departments. The ground floor will cater to public services such as grievance redressal, birth and death certificate issuance, and revenue collection. The first and second floors will accommodate the offices of the mayor, deputy mayor, and municipal commissioner. Higher floors will house an urban innovation centre, IT cell, control room, and a Swachh Bharat Mission training centre, supporting digital governance initiatives.

Speaking at the event, Choudhary praised PMC’s efforts in improving urban management under its ‘Chakachak Patna’ initiative. He urged officials to adopt the ‘Waste to Wealth’ scheme, which seeks to repurpose waste into valuable resources.

Assembly Speaker Yadav acknowledged PMC’s financial growth and urged other municipal bodies to emulate its self-reliance model. Meanwhile, Road Construction Minister Naveen announced plans for new zonal offices and community buildings, aimed at further strengthening the city’s infrastructure.

Urban Development Minister Jiwesh Mishra stressed the importance of completing the headquarters within the set 18-month deadline, calling on PMC to ensure high-quality construction standards.
