Begusarai/Patna: A court in Bihar’s Begusarai has issued summons to Bhojpuri film actress Akshara Singh in connection with a complaint over an abruptly concluded performance at a cultural event during Durga Puja celebrations in 2023.
The complaint, filed by folk singer and event organiser Shivesh Mishra, accuses Singh of leaving the stage just half an hour into a two-hour programme, despite being paid Rs 5 lakh for the full duration. The incident reportedly took place in Sindhia Nagma village of Samastipur, where Singh had been invited to perform by the local Durga Puja Committee.
According to the complaint, Singh became upset when a member of the audience threw a Rs 20 note towards the stage. In response, she allegedly threw the microphone and exited the event, cutting the show short and sparking chaos at the venue.
The court of First Class Magistrate Om Prakash took cognisance of the matter on Saturday and issued summons to Singh. Her father, Vipin Singh, has also been named in the complaint. Mishra, a resident of Ahiyapur in Mansurchak, Begusarai, has claimed substantial financial losses due to the incomplete performance.
Speaking to local media, Mishra’s advocate Pramod Kumar confirmed that the court proceedings have begun. The complainant has also released a video welcoming the court’s action and expressing confidence in the legal process.
“This is our first step towards justice,” Mishra said, calling the summons a “small victory” and vowing to pursue the matter further.
