Buxar: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a fiery rally in Buxar on Sunday, accusing the duo of prioritising political power over the development of Bihar.
Speaking during a 50-minute address in the sweltering heat, Kharge dismissed the BJP-JD(U) alliance as opportunistic, saying, “The Modi-Nitish duo is only for the chair, not for Bihar’s development. This shifting alliance, from one lap to another, is not good for the country.”
The Congress chief’s visit comes amid growing political activity in Bihar ahead of the upcoming elections. While the party had hoped to attract a crowd of 40,000, local estimates placed attendance at under 1,000, with party officials blaming the intense heat and wedding season.
Despite the thin turnout, Kharge did not hold back. He criticised the central government for using investigative agencies to “intimidate” opposition leaders, specifically targeting the ongoing National Herald case. “They are trying to scare Sonia Gandhi by targeting Rahul and Priyanka. But these people will not be scared. The Gandhi family has made sacrifices for this nation — Rajiv Gandhi’s body was brought back in pieces. And what sacrifice have you made? Not even a single dog of yours died for the country,” he said, in a stinging remark aimed at the BJP leadership.
Kharge also accused the Prime Minister of fostering division through controversial legislation, stating, “Modi forcibly brought in the Waqf law where there was no dispute for years. Now they want to create one.”
He took aim at the RSS as well, invoking Manusmriti and asserting that the organisation “cannot be a friend of the poor, the backward, or women.”
