Bihar CM Nitish Kumar to Lay Foundation Stone for Punauradham Complex Development
Patna: Punauradham, situated in the heart of Bihar and steeped in the rich tapestry of the Ramayana circuit, takes center stage as one of the most significant sites associated with the revered mythology. Nestled in the serene village of Punaura in the Sitamarhi district, Punauradham houses the Maa Janaki Janmabhoomi temple, also known as Punauradham, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita. Drawing devotees from across India and Nepal, the temple holds immense religious and cultural significance.
In a dedicated effort to transform Punauradham into a world-class religious tourist destination, the Bihar Tourism Department has successfully completed the first phase of development. This phase encompasses key elements such as an integrated building, pilgrim residence, and a subway, contributing to the overall enhancement of the site.
The Bihar Government has allocated a substantial sum of Rs 72.47 crore for the current project, and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is set to lay the foundation stone today, marking a pivotal moment in the site’s transformation. The comprehensive development plan encompasses several key components:
- Covered Circumambulation Path: A covered circumambulation path around the main temple, featuring exquisite architecture using sandstone, is proposed. This addition aims to provide devotees with a serene and spiritually enriching experience.
- Tourist Facilities at Janaki Mahotsav Grounds: To enhance the convenience of tourists, the project includes the construction of parking facilities for vehicles, a cafeteria, kiosks, and toilet facilities within the Janaki Mahotsav grounds.
- Sita Vatika and Luv-Kush Vatika: The project envisions the creation of Sita Vatika and Luv-Kush Vatika, contributing to the overall aesthetics and cultural richness of Punauradham. Additionally, a Shanti Mandap for meditation is slated for construction near Sita Vatika.
- 3D Animation Center: A major highlight of the project is the provision for a 3D animation center showcasing the life story of Goddess Sita. Expected to be a major attraction for tourists, this feature aims to provide an immersive experience and deepen the cultural understanding of Punauradham.
As Bihar takes strides towards elevating Punauradham to international prominence, the state envisions a future where the site stands as a testament to the cultural heritage and spiritual significance embedded in the Ramayana circuit. The ongoing commitment of the Tourism Department reflects Bihar’s dedication to fostering religious tourism and preserving its cultural legacy.
